We have a hotel located on campus: Al Khozama Hotel & Residences at KAUST. It’s within walking distance of KAUST buildings, and we typically arrange internal taxis or shuttle buses for guests. Please note that Uber is not available on the KAUST campus.

Travel & Local FAQs

• What is the dress code? Delegates are asked to wear conservative attire (covered knees and shoulders). Western business or business casual attire is appropriate. Women are not required to wear an abaya or headscarf at the airport or in the city.
• What is the main language? Arabic is the official language. English is widely spoken and used on signage.
• What will the weather be like? Expect daytime temperatures around 35°C (95°F). All buildings are air-conditioned, so bring a light jumper. Sunscreen (under 100 ml for carry-on), a hat, and sunglasses are recommended.
• Which currency can I use? The currency is the Saudi Riyal (SAR). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s advisable to carry some cash for small purchases. ATMs are readily available.
• Where can I exchange currencies? Currency exchange services are offered at airports, banks, and exchange bureaus. Major credit cards are accepted across the Kingdom.
• Which plug socket is used? Saudi Arabia uses Type G (three rectangular pins) and Type C (two round pins) plugs. Voltage: 230V / 60Hz. A universal adapter is recommended.
• Will Wi-Fi be available? Free Wi-Fi is available throughout all university buildings.
• Is tap water safe to drink? Drinking fountains at KAUST provide safe drinking water, but tap water is not recommended.
• Can I drink alcohol? Alcohol and drug use are strictly prohibited in Saudi Arabia.
